Sinn Fein Welcome New Social Housing for Garvaghy Road.

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd and Councillor Paul Duffy have welcomed, in principle, a proposal from South Ulster Housing Association to build 12 new social housing units on the Garvaghy road in Portadown.

Mr O' Dowd said;

"Sinn Féin have been lobbying for many years for more social housing in this area and while we have had some success with the development at nearby Curran Street we have always contended that more housing was needed.

"The planned provision of six two bedroom apartments, four one bedroom apartments and two two bedroom wheelchair apartments is very welcome and we will be engaging with SUHA on the design etc. of the development to ensure it brings benefits to the new residents and the area.

Cllr Paul Duffy said:

"I would encourage local residents to become involved in the consultation about the proposed new development.

"Currently the SUHA are offering a public consultation on Thursday 9th November, 2017 at 5pm in Portadown Town Hall. However, we have asked that the consultation event is moved to one of the many community facilities in the area of the proposed development to allow as many people as possible to attend. If the event is moved we will keep people informed."
